Farm and Bay Salt
Salt farms are located in
the coastal areas, in which you produce salt using
solar heat, wind and other natural forces and
concentrating the salty sea water.
The salt produced from natural mud-flat (full
of red clay containing a variety of inorganic
minerals, including germanium) salt farms is bay
salt. |
Excellence
of Bay Salt produced from
Korea¡¯s West Coast Bay salt is made by confining and naturally drying the sea water in a certain area using the sun, land and the wind. It is a treasure repository containing various kinds of microelement minerals and is crucial for human survival.
Bay salt produced from Korea¡¯s West Coast is one of the world¡¯s finest, with lower salinity, pH closer to alkaline and rich in inorganic minerals such as Ca and Mg. |

World¡¯s Top Five Salt Farms
The North Sea in Europe / Eastern
Coast in Canada / Georgia of the U.S. East Coast /
River mouth of the Amazon River and finally Korea¡¯s
West Coast: Korea¡¯s West Coast is an ideal location
for salt farms because the sea water gets evaporated
easily as it is affected by relatively dry westerly,
low sea depth of less than 100m and a wide tidal range.
Why Mud Flats are Important
1. It purifies all the contaminants
and wastes discharged from the land, and prevents
the natural disasters.
2. A diversity of life forms live in the mud flats,
making them the repository of ecology, and multiple
marine lives dwell in the mud flat.
3. It is the location where high quality salt (bay
salt) necessary for human survival is produced.
World¡¯s Finest
Bay Salt Production Areas
The bay salt produced in Korea¡¯s
West Coast, one of the world¡¯s finest mud flat and
a repository of minerals, is made by drying up the
sea water using the sunlight, the wind and the thermal
heat.
The bay salt contains a diversity of microelements
required for the human body and is essential for maintaining
life.
Salt Farms
It is assumed that people first
encountered the salt from the sea by discovering it
left on the caved-in rocks near the coastal area as
they are dried by natural sunlight.
As such, salt farms refer to
the ground on which you can get the salt using sun,
wind and many other natural forces and energy. The
table salt is extracted crystals created from further
concentration of the salt water obtained from the
salt farm.
The salt farms you extract salt using natural forces
and energy are referred to as bay salt farms and
one third of the world¡¯s total salt production (approx.
100 mil. tons) is bay salt. Most of salt farms in
the world use such method for their salt and especially
widely in coastal areas of Mexico, Australia, and
the Mediterranean where the weather is mild.
Those salt farms have in place reservoirs, evaporating
ponds and crystallizing ponds in sequence near the
coastal area so that the sea water obtained can
be stored, evaporated for concentration and extracted
after crystallization.
